I'm not sure if we just lucked out or what, but Sophia started sleeping SO GOOD at about four weeks old. For the last two weeks (4-6 weeks old), Sophia has consistently slept at least 8 hours at night (usually 8pm-4am). I feed her and then we go back to sleep until around around 8am. Her first nap is usually from 8:30-12:30pm, and the second nap is usually from around 1:30-4:30pm. She will usually take about an hour nap between dinner and bedtime (5:30-6:30pm). Her bedtime is usually around 8pm.
So we decided that we would start sleep training her at six weeks. It was so hard for us to hear her cry, but the results were so dramatic we knew we were doing the right thing. Not to mention that we always made sure her tummy was full and her diaper was dry. I had always nursed her to sleep the first six-weeks so it was hard to give that up. The first few nights she cried about 18-20 minutes total with us going in to soothe her after the first ten minutes. Considering we NEVER let that child cry, we didn't think that a few minutes at night would hurt her. In fact, it helped her learn to soothe herself to sleep.
Every night she cried a little less, and after about two weeks she wasn't crying at all! Around eight weeks she started sleeping ten to eleven hours at night, and by nine and a half weeks she was sleeping 12+ hours every night! Woohoo! Yay for sleep training!
