Sweet Sixteen!

Well, Sophia is officially sixteen months old! We haven't posted about her developmental milestones since she turned one so this is a catch-up post! The past sixteen months have absolutely flown by in what seems like the blink of an eye. She is such a big girl now and everything about her screams toddler. Sometime around her first birthday there was a dramatic turning point in her development and she went from baby to toddler overnight. The last four months have been so amazing and we are so lucky.

Sophia is learning at such an incredible pace that it seems to surprise us day after day. She is like a little sponge and she does not miss a thing. And like every other parent in the world, we think she is the smartest, cutest and sweetest child ever! Ha!

Sophia knows and can say a ton of words (seriously, I quit counting at fifty!). She says around ten short sentences that we can actually understand. Her favorites are "Uh oh... I'm stuck!", "I don't know"(with her hands in the air of course!), "All done please" and "Here you go". She knows around 10 signs and uses to tell us things throughout the day (eat, water, milk, baby, etc.). She knows all of her body parts and is especially excited about her belly button. When I ask her if she wants to sing the alphabet song, she says "A-B-C" and then joins in for G, S and Z also.

Sophia loves to read books now and can usually sit in my lap for 3-4 books before getting restless. She is somewhat obsessed with animals and knows a sound or action for all of them. She really loves our dogs Scout and Sadie and calls them by name as she is chasing them around the house! She even tells them "No, no!" when she thinks they are misbehaving. Ha!

Sophia is quite a monkey and tries to climb on everything. Her teachers at Mother's Day Out said they have to watch her very carefully because she has been known to climb onto the tables. Not a surprise at all. In fact, just a few days ago we realized that she could climb up the outside of the stairs holding onto the rails. Basically scaling the wall. So scary!

She also loves accessories of any kinds! She loves to carry her purse and wear her sunglasses and bracelets. She has just recently started putting her small newborn bows on her ears for earings! It is so cute and we have to get a picture of it!

She finished her music class and Gymboree class in December and now she is taking swimming lessons. Oh, how she loves the water! We have to put plugs in her ears and an ear bandit headband on her to make sure water doesn't get in her ears because of the tubes. I also have several toddler swim caps that I am tempted to use just to be extra safe, but I honestly don't think she would be able to hear at all. So I guess I better not :-)

Sophia loves to play with her friends and is beginning to show signs of moving from parallel play to cooperative play. She also loves both sets grandparents and great-grandparents. She kisses them every single day in her 'Who Loves Sophia?' book. She still loves to dance and now she tries to sing along to the songs. We think she may have her Mommy's rythym, bless her little heart!

She is such a blessing and the light of our lives. Every age has been sweet and fun in its own way, but months thirteen through fifteen have definitely been our favorite by far. We will probably say that again in her eighteen month recap as well!

**In case you are wondering why she is eating in most of these pictures, it is because that is the only way we can get a picture of her standing still! Ha!**
