Sophia's New Hair

I went to yoga this morning and this is what I came home to.  Yep... after 2 years with complete access to real scissors, she finally cut something other than her hair.  Sigh.  If you would have told me this was going to happen and asked for my reaction ahead of time, I would have said that I would absolutely lose my mind.  It was crazy how calm I was when I saw what she had done to her hair.  And the fact that she cut bangs even made me giggle a little (not in front of her of course).

When I asked her why she did it she said that she wanted to look different and that she really liked short hair.  When I asked her why she cut bangs she told me that she cut them to see if anyone would recognize her.  Oh dear.  That girl is going to give us a run for her money when she is older :-)  Needless to say we had a talk about how we never, ever cut anything other than paper/art stuff with scissors and Mommy took possession of all the real scissors for an undetermined amount of time.

On a side note, she stood in front of her bathroom mirror to cut her hair which totally explains how well she did. Haha! There were remnants of hair in the sink and on the counter, but the bulk of the hair was missing. When I asked her where it was she showed me that she put it in her treasure chest (aka jewelry box) and said she was going to keep it forever.  It was sweet :-) When she opened it up and I saw her sweet curls I did tear up a bit.  Her hair has been growing in straight since she turned two, so I think that is the last of the curls.  At least it's really healthy now. Ha! :-)

So I took her in to get it 'evened' out.  My hair girl was out of town so we used someone else.  Big mistake.  She basically gave her a chili bowl :-(  The shaggy, uneven cut that Sophia managed was totally cuter in a Meg Ryan-hot mess kind of way than the chili bowl.  Oh well.  It's only hair and it will grow back.  That is my mantra :-)

She has been consistent in saying how much she loves her hair... except for a short one minute meltdown when she said that she looked like a boy.  That was really sad :-( Then I showed her a picture of my chili bowl-esque hair do from the 80's (thanks for that Mom!) and she was all good again :-)  It doesn't matter because we think she is beautiful no matter what her hair do looks like.  Love her so much!

In other news... this little guys hair is starting to grow back in :-)  The new growth is actually pretty light and it stands straight up, but it is sooooo cute on this little guy!
