We had such a fun and relaxing Christmas Day! Sophia let us sleep in until 9:30am (usually she is up around 8:30am) which was so nice for me. Dan tends to wake up really early anyway, but you know how much I like my sleep :-) Once we had enjoyed our coffee (and milk for Sophia), we let Sophia open a couple presents.
We try to make a conscious effort to shift the focus away from 'presents' around Christmas time. To us it just seems to take away from what we are really celebrating, Jesus Christ. Plus, everyday around here is like Christmas for Sophia :-) When it comes to toys/games/etc I am quite a minimalist, and don't want a ton of just random "stuff" in the playroom.
I did start feeling a little guilty after seeing her face as she opened her gifts at the Thionnet family Christmas last weekend. What really made it worse was when she asked if we could go to the store and get Jesus a Christmas present. So sweet. So, I (along with everyone else in DFW) did some last minute shopping this week so that she would have some presents to open on Christmas morning. It is Jesus' birthday after all :-)
These magnetic puzzles were such a hit! She literally spends hours playing with them.
Loving the Boz matching game
and the Boz board game!
We got her a two piggy banks: one for saving and one for tithing. Soon we will have to add another one for her 'fun' money.
After lunch and naps we went to the movie theater to see Tangled. It was Sophia's first movie and she LOVED it. She sat in her seat for the entire movie and was completely mesmerized. We were a little nervous about taking her to a movie this long, but she did great! This is definitely going to be one of our favorite activities during the cold weather season :-) We had a fantastic Christmas Day and hope you did too!
