I began laying the ground work about a month before school started to minimize the 'trauma' of the first day of school. I talked with her about her new school, her new teachers and all the new friends she was going to meet. I told her that Cora was also going to be in her class and she was pretty excited about that too. We went to the church and walked around, and every time we drove by it we would point out her 'new school'. The director sent pictures of the teachers with the welcome letter, and she looked at Ms. Julie and Ms. Kathy's picture about ten times a day. Basically, I felt like I had prepared her for the transition. Overkill? Maybe. It definitely paid off when we got to her school and she walked right in and said, "Bye, bye Mommy". Thanks goodness!
Anna and I celebrated the first day of MDO with a trip to the tea room at Brownstone Village in Arlington. We had a delicious, adults-only lunch and then did some leisurely shopping at BV. So much fun! We went back to get the girls early because we were certain nap time on their mats with ten other kids in the room was a joke. So we arrived about 45 minutes early and peeked in the room and EVERY SINGLE CHILD was asleep on their nap mat. WHAT?! Total shocker. I knew right then and there Ms. Julie and Ms. Kathy knew what they were doing. Needless, to say it was not the normal 3+ hour nap that Sophia is used to, but she was still happy as can be when she came out of the room.
I tried to get some pictures that morning, but it was raining and cloudy and the lighting was terrible. I didn't have my external flash yet so they turned out really grainy, hence the black and whites ;-)
Daddy helping Sophia with all her gear ;-)
Ready to go!
This is what she did when I asked her to smile. So sweet ;-)
So proud of our big girl!
Once we got home and had a snack, I gave her a 'princess wand' to play with while I snuck a few more pictures.
Oh, how I wish she would have been smiling in this one...
I always thought I'd have a child with blue eyes, but I am so thankful she got her Daddy's green/hazel eye color :-)
Can you tell how tired she was after such a hard day? Haha!
Night night!
I absolutely LOVE these sweet toes ;-)

Mine, too, Melanie. It's crazy how much she's changed since these pictures were taken.
